Role Overview
FWCanada is seeking a motivated law graduate or articling student (stagiaire) to join our Business Development team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meeting new people, building relationships, and applying legal knowledge to help prospective clients navigate complex Canadian immigration matters.
Working closely with our lawyers, you will conduct initial legal assessments, identify potential immigration pathways, and guide prospective clients through the early stages of the legal process. This position combines legal analysis with client relationship management and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop practical experience in Canadian immigration law.
This is an on-site position based in Montreal, Quebec.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct initial consultations with prospective clients to obtain relevant facts and perform preliminary assessments of potential immigration options under the supervision of a lawyer.
Assess prospective cases involving Temporary Resident Permits, Criminal Rehabilitation, Study Permits, Work Permits, and other Canadian immigration matters.
Explain immigration processes, required documentation, and next steps to prospective clients in a clear and professional manner.
Conduct legal research and assist in analyzing complex immigration and inadmissibility issues.
Prepare consultation summaries, maintain accurate client records, and ensure information collected is complete and well organized.
Communicate with prospective clients, existing clients, and lawyer referral sources by telephone and email.
Build trusted relationships with prospective clients while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and client service.
Manage multiple consultations and leads while ensuring timely follow-up and excellent client care.
Work collaboratively with lawyers and the legal team to facilitate the transition from consultation to file opening.
Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate is an empathetic and personable professional who genuinely enjoys helping people through challenging situations. They build trust quickly, communicate with confidence and professionalism, and possess exceptional organizational skills.
They are intellectually curious, enjoy solving complex legal problems, and are comfortable balancing independent work with collaboration. They take initiative, learn quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where delivering an outstanding client experience is just as important as strong legal analysis.
